Bobby C. Benjamin, Sr., was born to Hazel Jean Benjamin on August 18, 1958. He was adopted by his maternal grandfather Isaiah Benjamin whom he affectionately called "Poppa". Baptized at a tender age, Bobby was a member at St, Paul Missionary Baptist Church. His love and talent for basketball made him a popular player at Brookhaven High School where he graduated with the class of 1976. Bobby went on to attend Co-Lin Junior College, but his desire to create a better way of life for his family propelled him to seek employment in the oil field industry.
He worked on grueling drilling rigs in Texas and Louisiana for a short time, but he was always seeking to improve his circumstances. Bobby forged ahead to find employment at Chevron North America for 32 years as a processor, lead operator, mentor, part-time filed coordinator, and operations specialist. The latter position afforded him the opportunity for advancement in Southern Africa before the twilight of his career. After some time at home, Bobby returned to the oil filed at Crosby Energy Services as a lead operator until the time of his illness.
Bobby was preceded in death by his grandparents Isaiah and Gladys Irene Benjamin, his mother Hazel Jean Jackson, brother Carl Bridges, and brother-in-law Waeron Evans.
Bobby is survived by his devoted wife Lisa Benjamin, his children Tarika Benjamin, Genetra Benjamin, Evan White, Sr., Bobby C. Benjamin, Jr., and Ladele Carter, a great-nephew whom he raised as his own, four grandchildren; Keyana, R'Kya, Brooklyn and Evan, Jr., one brother Larry Benjamin (Leisha), nephew Jordan Benjamin, one Uncle Calvin Benjamin (Minnie), one brother-in-law James C. Evans, Jr., three nieces Adele, Jennifer and Sarah, and a host of other family and friends.
Bobby was a devoted husband, father, mentor, friend, and leader in the workplace and the church community. He was a loyal member of Mt. Vernon Methodist Church in Gray, Louisiana where he was a committed servant. He was a Lay Leader, Beautification Committee member, and Men's Day Committee member.
Bobby never met a stranger and had a heart of pure gold. He loved his family, his career, but most importantly he loved the Lord. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him his legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
Though we say goodbye for now, this is not the end. His spirit lives on in the love he gave, the lessons he shared, and the lives he shaped. Until we meet again, in God's presence, may he rest in eternal peace.
