A devoted Christian and tireless prayer warrior, Betty lived as a radiant example of faith and compassion. Her melodious voice lifted countless souls in song, while her steadfast love as a wife, the very embodiment of motherhood, nurturing grandmother, loyal friend, and cherished sister touched all who knew her. Betty Jean Jones Arceneaux, born December 20, 1951, in New Orleans, Louisiana, peacefully departed this life on November 29,2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and service. She was the cherished daughter of the late Rafe Jones Sr. and Susie Mae Whitsett Jones.
A proud product of the Jefferson Parish school system, Betty dedicated her professional life to the same community that nurtured her, serving with distinction until her retirement.
Betty’s life was marked by profound love and devotion to her family. She was first united in marriage to Paul Wilson, and together they were blessed with four children: Carl, Paul Jr., Devron, and Nedra. In April 1996, Betty married William Arceneaux Jr., her beloved “King,” and welcomed two stepchildren, Tequilla Arceneaux and William Arceneaux III. Betty and William’s partnership was a model of enduring companionship and friendship; their unity and joy were evident to all who knew them.
A pillar in her church and community, Betty’s powerful voice uplifted many as she sang in the choir, and her steadfast prayers provided comfort and strength as a faithful prayer warrior. She inspired generations through her testimony, wisdom, and the personal stories she shared in Sunday school, touching countless lives with her faith.
Betty deeply valued family and the creation of lasting memories. Her wit, humor, and practical life lessons left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Her kindness, generosity, and grace will be lovingly remembered by all.
She is survived by her devoted husband, William Arceneaux; her children, Carl Johnson (Shauntay), Paul Wilson Jr. (Kelly), Devron Wilson, and Nedra Wilson; stepdaughter, Tequilla Arceneaux-Robinson (Patrick); grandchildren: Zenobya Brown, Kayla Johnson, Dalyn Wilson, Mayea’ Wilson-Britton, Deryn Wilson, and Makhi Wilson; step-grandchildren: Darrell and Tyrell Walker; great-great-grandchildren: Mahundya Abron and Brighton Wilson; sisters: Mary Jones, Susie Jones, Deborah Johnson (Leonard), and Shirley Kennedy (Willie); sisters-in-law: Elaine Francis, Joyce Arceneaux, Oneita Austin (Michael), Rhonda Arceneaux, Wanda Thomas (Raynell), and Stacy Young (Eugene); goddaughter: Dr. Sonya Hazel; bonus children: Latasha Hales, Shanquel Morgan, Quenice Morgan, Victoria Morgan- Williams, Cherlyn Rogers, Myron Rogers, Vernitra Blakes Shivers, Terry Delille, Monyea Britton, David Franklin, Bishop Tyrone Jefferson, and Demond Morton. Special Friends: Audry Morgan, Ralph Woodruff, Karen Patterson, Reginald Patterson Sr., Charlene Reed, Katricia Franklin, KiTani and Nelson Lemieux, Elder Cynthia Dexter, Elder Deanna Appleberry and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Relatives and friends of the family as well as pastors, officers, and members of Mount Calvary Church International, Little Zion Baptist Church of Avondale, LA, Nineveh Baptist Church of Metairie, Oakland Baptist Church and Pilgrim Baptist Church of Kenner are invited to attend the funeral services on Saturday, December 13, 2025, Mount Calvary Church International located at 1600 Westwood Drive Marrero, LA 70072. The visitation will begin at 9AM followed by a 10AM service. Apostle Terry Gullage will officiate, and entombment will follow in Restlawn Park Cemetery and Mausoleum 3540 US-90, Avondale, LA 70094.
