Bernell "Dokie" Charles

Bernell “Dokie” Charles departed this life on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at the VA Medical Center in New Orleans, La.  God called his angel home into his final resting place after a brief illness.  He was native of Algiers, La and a resident of Marrero, La.  Bernell was the loving husband of the late Linda Ann Williams and father of Anitra (Michael) Charles, Travis Sr. (Michelle) Charles and Demetrice Williams.  Son of the late Charlotte Santiago-Charles and the late Frank Charles Sr.  He was a member of the United States Air Force.  His fun-loving and caring ways will always be remembered by many.  He will sadly be missed by all.

Son in law of Lillie Mae Stevenson Williams and nephew of Ferile St. Cyr.  He is the grandfather of 13 grandchildren, Tahj Charles, Sha'im Charles, Sanaa Charles, Jaedon Voisin, Javon Voisin, Akira Williams, Travis Charles Jr., Jamar'e Voisin, Aniylah Williams, Alaylah Williams, Jalela Voisin, Aamir Charles, and Khairiya Charles.  Brother-in-law of Sylvia Charles, Henry Williams Jr., Sylvia Williams, Terry (Debra) Williams, Wanda (Jerry) Mack and Charles Ellis, and godfather of Everett Carter.  He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

Bernell is preceded in death by his mother Charlotte Santiago-Charles, father Frank Charles Sr., brothers Frank Jr., Clarence, Jerry, and Dave Charles, sisters Ethel Mae Charles-Henry and Marguerite Charles-Carter, sister-in-law Beatrice Williams-Ellis and Essie Charles, Brother-in-law Louis henry, Willie Carter and Charles Ellis.  

Private celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at Robinson Family Funeral Home located at 9611 LA – 23, Belle Chasse, La, 70037.  The limited visitation will be from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m., Pastor Walter Byes will officiate and interment will be private.

Due to COVID – 19, EVERYONE in attendance MUST wear a facemask or other proper facial covering, and practice social distancing.
