Bernadette "Bernie" Angeline Jones Avist departed this life peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Riverbend Nursing Facility in Belle Chasse LA.. She was 86 years old and a native and lifelong resident of Boothville LA.
She was born on January 1, 1939 to the late Clifford Jones and the late Ellen Prout Jones. In her final days, she was surrounded by her family. Bernie will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Ewald Avist; her daughter, Kathleen Avist Antoine, and an adoring God-given additional child, Heather Jones Davis; her grandchildren, Racquel, Rickey, Jerome, and Danielle; her great-grandchildren, Harmonie, Jacoby, Caleb, and Paisley; along with her siblings: Joycelyn Toulouse, Mary E. (Robert) Johnson, Lavern Maynor, Valarie (Orlando) Ragas, Gwen, Clifford W. (Mercedes), Harold R. (Laverne), Bishop Tommy R., and Gregory (Lisa) Jones. She is predeceased by her daughters, Viola Avist Barthelemy and Dr. Dana Avist; her great-granddaughters, Shyrion and Shawnee; and her siblings, Mercedes, Sheila, and Ruthie. She is also survived by her aunt, Lois Tate, a devoted nephew, Marvin Toulouse; godchildren, Ida Mae, Wallace, Timothy, Tonya, Travis, and Jordell, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Bernie was a dedicated member of Zion Hill Christian Church in Boothville, LA, for many years..
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at Zion Hill Christian Church 137 Zion Hill Lane, Boothville LA. on Saturday June 14, 2025. The visitation will begin at 9AM followed by an 11AM service. Rev. Samuel Crum Jr. is the pastor and Bishop Samuel Crum Sr. will officiate. Entombment immediately following the funeral service at Our Lady of Good Harbor Cemetery Buras, LA.
