Benjamin James Irvin departed this life peacefully on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at home in Marrero, LA. He was 80 years old and a native of New Orleans, LA, and a resident of Marrero and Ironton La. Ben was retired Longshoreman (40 years) with the ILA Local 3000 Former 854. He was very active as a member of the Marrero Seniors Guild, DAV, the R.S.V.P. and LEJCEO Grassroots Organization. He was also a volunteer at the Marrero Senior Citizens Center. Ben was a faithful member and usher of the Greater King Solomon Baptist Church of New Orleans under the leadership of Pastor John T. White. Following Hurricane Katrina, Ben and his wife relocated their membership to the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church of Ironton La. under the leadership of Pastor Haywood Johnson Jr. where he served as an usher until his untimely death. His favorite hobbies were fishing, hunting and baseball.

Devoted and loving husband of Althea Watts Irvin. Father of the late Melinda Irvin Priester. Grandfather of Janae Preister. Brother beloved of Harold, Harris, Adam, Algy, Alton, Carl, Reggie and Eric Irvin, Errol Williams, Rosalind Kay, Mandaline Shields, Beverly Jelks, Patricia Hightower, Ann Jackson, Juliette Irvin, Shelia and Cheryl Williams and the late Russell Jr. and Henry Irvin Sr. Son-in-law of Florence Watts and the late James Watts Sr. Devoted uncle of Brandon Watts and John Cotton. Devoted friend of Clarence Catherine. Brother-in-law of Paulette Watts and Stacy Cotton. Ben is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, brothers and sisters-in-law, other relatives and dear friends.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the celebration of life services on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church located at 133 Bradish Street, Ironton, LA, 70083, at 11 a.m. The limited visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Pastor Haywood Johnson Jr., officiating, and entombment with military honors will follow at Westlawn Cemetery 1225 Whitney Ave. Gretna, La. The family will also receive guest for a visitation on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Robinson Family Funeral Home 9611 LA – 23, Belle Chasse, LA 70037.
