Barbara Prout Obituary

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Barbara Jean Ragas Prout was born to the late Samuel Ragas, Sr., and Mary Andry Ragas on December 3, 1941. She was called to eternal rest peacefully on Monday, December 28, 2020, at West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, LA.

God gave us one of His most humble and giving servants for 79 years and during that time she lived a life full of love, support and service to her family and friends. There are no words to express the void that she has left behind, but we are thankful for the time we got to spend here on earth with her and the countless blessings she has bestowed upon our lives. A proud homemaker most of her life, Barbara enjoyed cooking and caring for her family first; they were her life, her love, her happiness. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church (Port Sulphur), she became a member of St. Patrick and later Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.  She was under the watch care of St. Joseph the Worker (Marrero, LA) where she would watch the live-stream and YouTube broadcast of Fr. Speaks continuously for hours upon hours.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 44 years, Leroy Harold Prout Sr. Both were natives of lower Plaquemines Parish, where they met, married, and started a family. Loving mother of Leroy Jr., Kimberly Prout, Monique Sylve and the late Reneka and Rene Prout. Devoted Mother-In-Law of Endora Prout, Corey Sylve, Kendrick Jones, and Patricia Parker. Always one to open her home to family and friends, she was the proud Guardian of Conrad Williams, Heidi Ancar, Chancell Hymes, and the late Troy Ragas Sr. as well as countless others. Proud grandmother of Kimberly Clark Jr. (A’Daryus), Leroy III, Lerah Parker, Kirstin (Drew), Leron, and Lea Prout, Kendrick Jr. and Kenan Jones, Tyler (Victoria) and Trey Sylve. Great Grandmother of Aniel Espadron, Maximilian Robinson, A’Kynley Billbury, Kayden Sylve, Kimbry, Aubrey, and Autumn Prout.

Sister of Eunice Ragas Williams, Janice Ragas Ingraham, Joseph Ragas, Gerald Ragas, Ruby Ragas Trufant, Betty Ragas Espadron, and the late Samuel Ragas Jr., Geraldine Ragas Ducro, Michael Ragas, and Bobby Lynn Ragas. Daughter-In-Law of the late Emanuel and Mazie Smith Prout. Sister-In-Law of Lionel Prout Sr., Katherine Prout, Joyce Williams, Javhonia Banks, Lois Ragas, Beatrice Ragas, Sheila Camese, and the late Emmett Williams, Emanuel Prout Jr., Adam Williams, Lawrence Banks, Joseph Ingraham, Marilyn Ragas, and Bernard Espadron. Devoted friend of Joan Marie Bennett, Verna Mae Ragas, and the late Mary Jane Gibson. She is also survived by a host of Godchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who often shared her cooking.
