Barbara Ann Burrell Wing Jackson, a native of Marrero and longtime resident of McDonoghville entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at the age of 78. She was surrounded by her loving family. Sister Barbara was born May 24, 1943, to the parents of the late Ida Mae Wing-Burrell and the late Reverend James C. Wing.
Barbara accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at the age of 13. She was baptized at St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church by her father, the late Rev. James C. Wing. Barbara served as president of the Pastor Support Ministry for a combined total of 40 years. She was ministry president under the late Reverend Talton Lewis and has served as Pastor Support President for the past 18 years, under the leadership of her Pastor, the Reverend Dr. M. C. Zeno. Barbara has been a devoted member of St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years.
Barbara was a graduate of L. B. Landry High School. Over the course of her life, Barbara has worked in many capacities: Security Guard and other professions until she found her passion, “caring for the sick and elderly.” She dedicated her life and time to some of the elderly at her church and those in the surrounding areas. To Barbara, there was no greater task.
Sister Barbara Jackson was the faithful wife of Terry Jackson, mother of one son, William Willis III, grandmother of 4, Doniesha Casimier, Dorian Furgerson, Ariane Williams, Amber Willis, great grandmother of Quantasia Roberts, Charles Green III, Charish Green, Amiran Hughes, Brian Clemons Jr. and Amaya Willis, great-great grandmother of Tevin Davis Jr., Sister of Bernadee W. White (Douglas) Sandra B. Crump, Gwendolyn B. LaSalle, Sharon B. Johnson (Stanley), Mother in law of Tammy Willis and Pamela Williams. Barbara also leaves 4 stepsons, one stepdaughter, 4 sisters in-law, 2 brothers in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends. Barbara was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Desmond Willis and Alexis Catchings, two brothers: Gary and Larry Burrell.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the homegoing celebration of Sister Barbara B. W. Jackson on Friday, December 31, 2021, at St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church located at 236 Robinson Avenue, Marrero, LA 70072. The visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the service will begin at 10 a.m. Pastor Melvin C. Zeno officiating, and interment will follow at McDonoghville Cemetery in Gretna, LA.
