Barbara Black Obituary

Barbara Ann Black, a lifelong resident of Gretna, Louisiana went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the age of 80.  She was born December 5, 1940 to the late Lousie Brown Black and the late Charles Black.  She is preceded in death by her brother Carver Black.  She was a devoted mother, sister, and grandmother. Her humor was infectious and she made everyone laugh.  Barbara was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling whether by air or cruise. Her adventures to her to such exotic places as Hawaii and Punta Cana. She enjoyed working with children and provided childcare services early in her career.  She served as the proprietor of the Cozy Kit Lounge in Gretna for several years where she established the Cozy Kit Baseball Team.   Barbara attended L. B. Landry High School and was an active member of the Class of ’59.  She attended Dillard and Grambling Universities; she earned a degree in Early Childhood Education from Holy Cross College. 

Those left to cherish her memories are, her daughter Brandi Black Randle, grandchildren Amari Issa Randle and Khalil Anthony Huntley; her sister Sandra B. Ponson, sister-in-law Camel; a host of nieces, nephews; great nieces and nephews; other family and friends.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Monday, August 23, 2021, at All Saints Catholic Church located at 1441 Teche Street, New Orleans, LA 70114. The visitation will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the Mass will begin 10:00 a.m.  Father Peter Weiss officiating and interment will follow at Alfortish Memorials & Mausoleums located at 520 Hancock Street, Gretna, LA.

Due to COVID – 19, EVERONE in attendance MUST wear a facemask or other proper facial covering and practice social distancing.   

The family would also like to thank Dr. Cherie Braggs as well as Dr. Robert Matheney both of West Jefferson Hospital for the special and loving care of Ms. Barbara Ann Black.
