Augrine Gladys Duncan Stewart Encalade, age 86, entered eternal rest on Thursday, September 4th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 15, 1938, to the late Maize Jones Duncan and Lambert Adam Duncan. Augrine was baptized at a young age at Mt. Olive Baptist Church by the late Rev. John Taylor and was a long-time, devoted member of Zion Hill Christian Church in Boothville, Louisiana, where she nurtured her faith throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maize and Lambert Duncan; her husbands, Felix Stelly, Carl Stewart Sr., and Willie Edward Encalade; her son Vernon (Loretta) Duncan Sr.; her daughter Lucretia (Keith Sr.) Espadron; grandchildren Richard Woulard and Christy Merrick; and one great-grandchild.
Augrine leaves to cherish her memory her devoted children: Carnell Hight (Derek), Cassandra Mayfield (Mack), Carl Stewart Jr. (Kay), Danita LaFrance, Edward Demolle, Patricia Jackson, Hiwanis Stewart, Carlette Davis, and Cassandra Cook. She is also survived by her loving siblings: Vivian (the late Arnold) Taylor, Gaynell (Samuel Sr.) Crum, Robert (the late Debra), Flora Mae, Gary (Faye) , Mancil (Kay), and Calvin (the late Joyce) Duncan.
She is further survived by 48 grandchildren, 168 great-grandchildren, 53 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great-grandchild, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever treasure her love and wisdom.
Relatives, friends of the family, pastors, officers, members of Zion Hill Christian Church, and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Zion Hill Christian Church in Boothville, Louisiana. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 noon, officiated by Pastor Samuel Crum Jr. Entombment will follow at First Mt. Zion Memorial Cemetery in Empire, Louisiana.
