Alvin John Gibson Sr. entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at his home in Jesuit Bend La., He was 74 years old and a native and lifelong resident of Port Sulphur, LA. He was a retired crane operator for Freeport McMoran and also retired from the Louisiana State School. He was loved by all and was well known as “Santa Clause” for his work with many organizations during the Christmas season.
Mr. Gibson was born on March 30, 1944 to the late Albert Sr. and Laura LaFrance Gibson. He was the devoted father of Karen T., Alvin Jr. and Mallory R. Gibson. Beloved companion of the late Helen Gail Duncan. Brother of Larry, Mary and Shirley Gibson, Lela Sylve and the late Albertine (Edmond) Ragas, Albert Jr., Rose (Frank) Mackey, Joseph (Lois) Sr., Nicholas Sr. and Peter (Elaine) Gibson. Grandfather of Alvin J. Gibson III, Raeyah N. Espadron, Katherine T., Kashell E., Tobias L. and Kenya M. Williams and the late Breck M. Espadron. Great grandfather of McKenzie Gibson, Tevin Turner Jr., Reese R. Espadron and Athena N. Williams. Deceased also survived by sisters-in-law Mary Jane and Josephine Gibson and brother-in-law Michael Sylve, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and devoted friends.
Relatives and friends of the family, members of O.L.P.H. Catholic church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Oakville, LA, employees of West Jefferson Hospital, staff and patients of Riverbend Nursing Home, as well as Dennis Photo Finish and all the photographers that Mr. Gibson did sittings for, patrons and students and parents of the various secondary and elementary schools where he entertained as Santa Clause, are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Catholic Church 8968 Highway 23 Belle Chasse, LA at 11 a.m. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. Father Kyle Dave Celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Memorial Park in Empire La.
