Alcina "Pickey" Rodgers Jr.

On July 23, 1945, Alcina Peters Rodgers Jr, was born to the parents of the late Alcina Sr, and Rita Marie Alexis Rodgers.  
Alcina also known as “Pickey”, was educated in the Plaquemines Parish School System, graduating from Sunrise High School.  After high school, he became a certified welder/machinist.  He worked for various companies that sometimes took him abroad.  He later retired from Haliburton.  He became self - employed through the establishment of “Rodgers Welding & Restoration Co”.  Alcina enjoyed racing cars and collecting model cars (Corvette lover).  

He was married to Gwendolyn Lewis of Baton Rouge, LA.  On June 4, 2021, he passed away ending his earthly journey.  Alcina is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn, sister, Rita, son Alcina Rodgers III, grandchildren, Railyn and Ryan Rodgers.  Sisters-in-law, Ramona Turner of New Orleans, Karen Thomas (Carl), Sheryl Almonte (Albert), Shyvonne Hill (Ken), all of Baton Rouge, LA, and Donna Rodgers of Buras, LA. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.  

Alcinas’ legacy to each of us is prayer.  He often talked about the power, perseverance and the payoff of prayer.  He also modeled praying on a daily basis.  
Alcina is preceded in death by his son, Timothy Lee Rodgers, parents Alcina Sr, and Rita Marie Alexis Rodgers, his brother Bruce Rodgers Sr., and his grandparents.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the celebration of life services on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Robinson Family Funeral Home located at 9611 LA – 23, Belle Chasse, LA 70037.  The visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the celebration of life service will begin at 10:00 a.m.  Reverend Leander Taylor Sr. officiating, and interment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery in Gretna, LA.  

Due to COVID – 19, EVERYONE in attendance MUST wear a facemask or other proper facial covering and practice social distancing.
