Bro. Ernest Prout was born in New Orleans, Louisiana at Charity Hospital on July 25, 1939. He was the only child of Louis Prout and Rozena Riley Montgomery. He has three (3) sisters; Linda Prout Armour, Carolyn Prout, and Olivia Prout (deceased). He had a happy childhood living with his grandparents. He attended the public school of Triumph, LA, graduating from 8th grade in May 1954. He graduated from Sunrise High School in May 1954. After high school, Bro. Prout entered the Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. In 1961 he was accepted as a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. In August 1963 he graduated from Southern University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics. On September 19, 1963, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He received an Honorable discharge September 18, 1965.
Bro. Prout's first job after his military service was as a Math Analyst for Chrysler Corporation Space Division-NASA, Slidell location. After leaving Chrysler he worked in the family business as Operations Manager and CFO of Prout's Enterprises for many years. Later he worked with various companies until his retirement in 2005. He enjoyed watching sports particularly tennis and football and followed politics closely.
Bro. Prout was united in holy matrimony to Audrey Mae Brooks Prout on December 19, 1964, and was a devoted husband for 49 years, 9 months. On October 22, 1968, this union was blessed with the birth of a beautiful daughter, Diana Marie Prout. Diana was married to Courtney Jerome Marbley, CJ as he is lovingly known was like a son to Bro. Prout. Bro. Prout's wife and daughter are present with the Lord. He was the proud grandfather of four (4) grandchildren; Lillian Marbley-Brown, Caleb Jerome "CJ" Marbley, Audrey Camille Marbley, and Ernest Prout Marbley. He also delighted in his three great-grandchildren Elisha Brown, Micah Brown, and Journee Rose Gary.
Bro. Prout professed his faith in Jesus Christs and became a born-again believer. He was baptized by Reverend Dwight Webster pastor of Christian Unity Baptist Church. At Christian Unity he was a dedicated member and served as a Trustee and member of the Usher Board until Hurricane Katrina. Until the time of his passing, he was a member of Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church where the Reverend Doctor Joseph A. Brooks is the pastor. At Greater Morning Star he served faithfully as the church Treasurer and a Trustee. His favorite Bible verse is Psalm 23:1. Bro. Prout would want to be remembered as a person who loved helping others.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at the Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church located at 14747 LA-23, Naomi, LA. 70037. The visitation will begin 10Am followed by an 11AM service. Pastor Joseph A. Brooks will officiate, and entombment will follow in Bayhi Cemetery in Jesuit Bend LA.
