Richard Joseph Gilbert

May 17, 1958 ~ December 27, 2017 (age 59) 59 Years Old

Richard “Ricky” Joseph Gilbert was born in Port Sulphur, LA on May 17, 1958.  He had many roles in his life including Boat Captain, Cook, and the local favorite Master Carpenter. His most important role was being a great Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Cousin and Friend. Richard passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 59 years old. 

 

Richard is survived by his four daughters Angela (Simon) Sundy, Sandy (Bradely) Hingle, Brittany (Zachary) Necaise, and Janna (Robert) Viator. He is also survived by his 5 sisters and 2 brothers Edna Mae Morel, Peggy (Lance) Ragas, Barbara Franceski, Wanda “June” Mistich, Lynell “Nell” (Tommy) Frickey, Warren “Butch” (Mel) Gilbert and Allen (Teresa) Gilbert. Loving grandfather of Allison, Shae’, Michael, Matthew, Simon, Shawn, Sydney, Dixie, Dustin, Jaylene and Lincoln. He was a great grandfather to James and Kingston who will soon arrive in March 2018. Richard is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and devoted friends.

 

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Margaret and Warren Gilbert Sr. 

 

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Trinity United Methodist Church located at 36674 Hwy 11 Buras, LA 70041. Visitation will be observed for immediate family from 10:00 to 11:00 am and 11:00 to 2:00 pm with service beginning at 1:30 for all family and friends. Entombment will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Church Cemetery in Port Sulphur, LA. 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials may be made in Richard’s name to “Autism Speaks” in honor of his grandson Dustin Necaise.
