Leah Ray Harvey

Leah Rae Harvey departed this life on Sunday, February 4, 2018. She was 65 years old and a lifelong resident of Buras, La. She graduated from Buras High in 1970. She played and excelled in basketball, softball and was a majorette. She was Buras High Most Athletic (1970). Soon after High School she began teaching at Buras where she found her true calling of helping, caring for, and loving the children of DTR. She moved to Washington State in 1974. She lived there for 6 years and enjoyed playing soccer and bowling. She returned back to Buras in 1980 and began teaching again. Her love of children lead her to accomplish another dream of becoming a juvenile officer for Plaquemines Parish.

Daughter of the late Bruce and Rae Nell Boatman. Loving wife of Richard “Ricky” Harvey for 34 years. Mother of Rusty Barrois (Melanie), Coby Barrois (Angie) and Brody Harvey. Grandmother of Andrew Barrois, Bayli Barrois, MacKenzie Barrois, Brooke Barrois and Brielle Barrois. Great grandmother of Jeremiah Barrois. Sister of Dee Dee Boatman. Aunt of Maygan Mitchell and Mason Mitchell. Great Aunt of Leland Mitchell. Niece of Sue Doll, Penny Boatman Papini, and Brian Boatman. Devoted lifelong friend of Mally Mays, Sally Frankovich, Janie Scarabin, and Janis Mitchell. Mother to hundreds more, too many to name.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Exceleration Church 7737 Belle Chasse Hwy, Belle Chasse, LA 70037 at 5 p.m. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Pastor Terry Bell officiating.

The family would like to especially thank Stephanie Melancon for taking care of her for the past 2 years also Tulane and Ochsner Hospitals.
