Jamal Jaza “Coach Jazz” Lewis Sr. entered eternal rest on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at University Hospital. He was 34 years old and a resident of Westwego, LA. Coach Jazz was a very dedicated and popular football and basketball coach with the Westwego Recreation Department. Tiffany Jones- Johnson the Departments Director described Coach Jazz as “A coach devoted to children”.
He is the son of Annette Lewis. Loving grandson of Ethel Lewis and the late Florstone Lewis. Great grandson of the late Mary Murray. Beloved friend of Brianeka Massey. Devoted father of Jamal Jaza Lewis Jr., Corey Chest, Ja’Shyria Lewis, Ja’Mya Johnson, Ja’Corey Massey, King Jazz Lewis and Liberty Lenox. Brother of Joseph Wicker Jr. and Jolisa Lewis. Uncle of Joslyn Lewis and devoted cousin of Gabrielle Jordan. Deceased is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, devoted friends and co-workers.
Relatives and friends of the family, as well as the staff and entire Westwego Recreation Department are invited to attend the funeral services on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Marine and Mt. Moriah Community Church located at 3034 Andover St. Jefferson, LA 70121. A public visitation will begin at the church at 12:15 p.m. Pastor Donald C. Robinson officiating. Internment will follow at Restlawn Cemetery in Avondale, LA.
