Deacon Iris Elmo Henry transitioned from labor to reward on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at his home in Port Sulphur, LA with his love ones at his bed side four days shy of his 85th birthday. He was a native of Point-Ala-Hache, LA and a longtime resident of Port Sulphur. Deacon Henry was a retired educator and school bus driver for the Plaquemines Parish School System with 54 years of dedicated service.
Son of the late Caston Henry and Hazel P. Lafrance. Stepson of the late Theodore Lafrance. Beloved husband by 1st marriage to the late Verlina Burrle Henry and by 2nd marriage to Diedre Davis Henry. Father of Iris (Barry) Cummins, Sylvia (Harry) Dew, Gordon (Blessing) Henry and the late Sharon, Christopher and Nathaniel Paul. Stepfather of Rodney and Ryan Riley, Tyler and Trevor Davis. Brother of Addie Riley and the late Lloyd and Curtis Henry. Deceased also survived by 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.
Relatives and friends of the family also pastor, officers and members of Greater St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church, Bethlehem African Judea Missionary Baptist Church, Greater Macedonia Baptist Church and all neighboring churches of Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parish, Christian Minister Missionary Baptist Association of Plaquemines Parish, Unity C.O.G.C., Plaquemines Parish School Board and employees and Alumni of both Phoenix and Sunrise High School are invited to attend Deacon Henry’s Homegoing Celebration on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Bethlehem African Judea M.B.C. 19266 Highway 15 Point-Ala-Hache, LA 70082 under the auspices of Dr. Darnell Smith Sr. and the Greater St. Peter M.B.C. of Oakville, LA. The service will begin at 10 a.m. and the visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Pastor Melvin Q. Cross Sr. is the host Pastor. Entombment will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery.
Deacon Henry’s wife Deidra Davis Henry and the Henry family will receive guest for a visitation on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Robinson Family Funeral Home 9611 Hwy 23 Belle Chasse, LA from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
