Our mother, Georgia Joann Manuel Powell, gained her wings to fly into heaven’s glory on Friday, February 16, 2018. She was surrounded by her loving family and caregivers in Port Sulphur, La. She was 68 years old, a native of Homeplace, La and a lifelong resident of Boothville, La.
Georgia was the beloved daughter of Pearlie Davis Manuel and the late George Manuel Sr. Beloved wife of the late Emmette J. Powell Jr. and longtime companion of Harold Phillips. Devoted mother of Terriana (Kenny) Landry Sr., Tatjana (Dawand Sr.) and Karasaka (Kendrick Sr.) Smith and Le’Trinda (Daron) Williams. Sister of Barbara (Frederick) Ragas, Gloria (Lionel) Wright, Jerry (Vera) Manuel Sr., Judith (the late Irvin) Riley, Jerome and Brenda Manuel, Capricia (Micheal) Powell Sr., the late Helen (Melvin) Pansy Sr., George Jr., Peggy and Gary Manuel.
Georgia is survived by her 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 2 godchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins as well as other relatives and devoted friends.
Relatives and friends of the family, also employees of Plaquemines Parish Government, Plaquemines Parish School Board and neighboring churches of Plaquemines Parish are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at St. Patrick Catholic Church 28698 Highway 23 Port Sulphur, La 70083 at 11 A.M. Visitation will begin at 9 A.M. Father Gerald Stapleton officiating. Internment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery Port Sulphur, La.
