Derrick James Payton

Derrick James Payton departed this life on Monday December 10, 2018 at West Jefferson Hospital. He was 44 years old. Derrick was raised in Buras LA., where he graduated from Buras High School in 1992. He also graduated from Southern University and A&M College with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting in June 1999. Derrick was an employee of L’Auberge Casino in Baton Rouge LA prior to his death.

Derrick was born on December 8, 1974 in New Orleans LA., to the late Hollis Payton Sr. and Naomi Mackey Payton. Beloved husband of Chloe’ Roussell-Payton. Devoted father of Madison L. Payton and Micah Collor (Kelsia Collor). Brother of Russell (Windy) Payton, Hollis (Jerina) Payton Jr., Colby Payton, Erica Payton and the late Cedric, Eric, Timothy and Jerrod Payton. Grandson of the late LT and Merline Coleman Payton and Henry and Morine J. Mackey.

Deceased is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and devoted friends.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service on Friday December 21, 2018 at First Mt. Zion Baptist Church located at 32471 Hwy 23 Empire La. at 11a.m. Visitation will be from 9a.m. until 11a.m. ONLY.  Dr. Reginald H. Burl Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Memorial Park Empire La.
