Millie Mackyeon Landry also known as "Buh-But", age 87, transitioned to her Heavenly Resting Place at Ochsner Medical Center on Saturday, March 9, 2024. She was born on September 15, 1936 to the union of the late Willie Mackyeon Sr. and Ella Mae Wilson Mackyeon. She was reared by her stepfather the late Frank Joseph Sr. She is the granddaughter of the late Robert Wilson Sr. and Henrietta Shine Wilson. Mrs. Landry was a native of Sorrento LA., grew up in Gesimar LA. and was a resident of Avondale LA. for over 50 years. As an adult she moved to Kenner LA. where she met and married the love of her life William S. Landry. They were married by the late Rev. Richard Wilson of Pilgrim Baptist Church. Millie was a faithful member of the Second St. John Baptist Church of Avondale under the leadership of the late Rev. Isaac Smith, the late Rev. Vernon Joshua and Rev. Charlie Davis. At Second St. John she was an active member of the senior choir. Millie's zest for life and cooking will forever be remembered as well as her loving and caring spirit for her family and friends. She was an extraordinary lady who her family was very proud to have as their mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She is survived by her daughters: Shirley Williams, Carol Dixon, Patricia Davis (Roman Sr.), Lesia Mackyeon and Jacqueline Landry; two grandchildren she raised; Darcelle Murray (Bernard) and Jonathan Mackyeon: her adopted children; Tina Mackyeon, Leslie Petty (Sheldon Sr.), Damon Mackyeon, Kimberly Nunez, (Jose) and Chotsoni Mackyeon; Daughter in law Betty Johnson: Siblings: Roosevelt Mackyeon Sr. (Vera), Frank Joseph Jr. and Gloria Dean Hardy; Sister in law Ophelia Mackyeon; two godchildren Dwamina Perkins and Ingelica Evans; thirty-one grandchildren, seventy-nine great grandchildren and a host of great- great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is also survived by a devoted nephew Baron K. LeBranch Sr., and devoted friends, Pearl Williams and Ruth Rollins. She was predeceased by husband William S. Landry; children Clarence Johnson Sr., Wayne and Rodney Morris, Betty Harris and Shelia Mackyeon, four sisters and two brothers.
Relatives and friends of the family, officers and members of Second St. John, Little Zion and Morning Star Baptist Church, as well as all neighboring churches are invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, March 22, 2024, at the Little Zion Baptist Church located at 433 Avondale Garden Road, Avondale LA. 70094. The visitation will begin at 9AM followed by a 10AM celebration of life service.
Pastor Damien Brown will officiate, and interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Avondale.
