Harry White passed away at the blessed age of 90 on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Ochsner Medical Center in Jefferson. Harry was born on October 10, 1933, in Killona, Louisiana, to the union of Isiah and Rozelia Louis White. Harry attended Killona Elementary and graduated in 1954 from George Washington Carver High School in Hahnville, Louisiana.
He served his country for several years in the United States Armed Forces when drafted in 1955. Moving to New Orleans after the service, he used his GI Bill to become a certified electrician and licensed barber at Delgado. Every weekend for nearly 60 years, Harry traveled to Killona, where he owned and operated the only barbershop serving family and friends. Harry labored and retired from an advertising company and law firm. He was the devoted and loving husband of the late Dora Kelly White. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Paula White Ainey and Pamela M. White, and one granddaughter, Michelle Ainey Robinson. Wanting to be an example for his family, Harry was baptized at the Greater King Solomon Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Superintendent of Sunday School. An avid sportsman, Harry would watch countless hours of football and basketball of his favorite teams, the Saints, Pelicans, and LSU.
Harry is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Dora Kelly White, parents Isiah and Rozelia Louis White; brothers, Rayfield, Melvin, Isaiah, Jr; sisters, Helena "Hazel" W. Roubleau, Emelda W. James and Leola W. Singleton. He leaves to mourn devoted daughters Paula White Ainey, and Pamela M. White, loving granddaughter Michelle Ainey Robinson (Harold) and brother Lawrence White of Los Angeles, California, loyal nieces Florence Roubleau Brumfield and Loretta W. Edwards, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and former customers.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the celebration of life service which will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Greater King Solomon Baptist Church, 3305 Audubon Street, New Orleans, LA 70125. The visitation will begin at 11 am, followed by a funeral service at 12 noon. Rev. John Thomas White officiating and interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
