Velma Duplessis Obituary

Velma Picquet Duplessis entered into eternal peace on Friday, February 9, 2018 at her home in Phoenix, La. She was 85 years old and a native and lifelong resident of Phoenix, La.

Daughter of the late Louis and Marguerite Moran Picquet Jr. Beloved wife of Antoine Duplessis Sr. Devoted mother of Patricia Ann (Dymond III) Thomas, Elnora Duplessis, Deborah Joyce Isidore, Antoine (Stephanie) Duplessis Jr., Reginald Gleen Duplessis, Regina (Danny) DeMolle, Jennifer (Larry) Hall, Pastor Simone Michele Duplessis and Aruvina Duplessis. Sister of Irving (Peggy) Picquet, Anna Mae Etienne and the late Augustine Banks-Marshall, Alberta Jackson, August Picquet Sr., Octavia Cross, Melisha Bienemy and Julia Picquet. Sister in law of Viola Bivens, Claudia Grant, Lois (Filmore) Solomon, Eugene Duplessis Sr. and Rev. Melvin Q. Cross. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

She was a devoted member of Zion Travelers Baptist Church from “cradle to grave.” Members of the Zion Travelers Baptist Church, Ecclesia of Christ Fellowship Center in Gretna, La. and all neighboring churches of St. Bernard, Orleans and Plaquemines Parishes, employees of Belle Chasse State School are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Zion Travelers Baptist Church 12661 Thomas Ln/ Hwy 15 Phoenix, La. 70040. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., the casket will be close at 10:55 a.m. and service will begin at 11 a.m. Pastor Tyronne Edwards officiating. Internment St. Joseph Cemetery in Phoenix, La.
