Harold George Payne Sr.

July 24, 1943 ~ September 10, 2017 (age 74) 74 Years Old

Harold George Payne Sr. was born in Houma, LA, on July 24, 1943.  He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Sunday, September 10, 2017, Harold George Payne, Sr., passed away at Tulane Hospital at the age of 74.  He was a resident of Avondale, LA for many years. He was the oldest son to the late George and Rosedell Payne. He was the beloved godson of the late Wilfred Brown and Margrette Brown- Fowler. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Joan Rogers-Payne; (3) children Harold “Tarshia” Payne Jr., Tonya Payne, and Leroy “Squeaky” Page-Vinnicheka; grandchildren  Antonio, Paisley, Dayjaner, Erica, and Ethane, Alexia, Hashall , Jyren, Logan, Kristen, Alayjah, Tyrone, and Jarone ; (3) great-grandchildren Antonio, Ma’Lai, and Reese; (1) brother Lawrence Bernard Payne Sr. and adopted Glenn Brown (5) adopted sisters: Carmilla Nandlal, Alania Brown , Caroline Brown, Karen Brown of Pearland, TX, and  Cheryl Thomas of Marrero, LA; (2) brothers -in –law Clarence Hill and  Julius Donald Thomas; Father-In-Law Norman Onzem and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Deacon Payne was blessed to have many wonderful friends, namely: Pastor Damian Brown, Deacons Kermis Lane, David Alexander and Walter James. 

 He graduated from South Down High School in 1960, in Houma, LA. He attended Southern University in Baton Rouge where he played the Buffon Clarinet in the marching band. He served in the U. S. Army as a paratrooper. He worked for Kaiser Aluminum until he retired.  He was an active member in his community. He was a member of The American Legion, Willie Davis Post 594. He once served as a Worshipful Master, Pride of Algiers with Prince Hall Masonic Temple. He also served as a volunteer at the VA Hospital as a van driver for more than 20 years. 

 

Relatives and friends of the family are all invited to attend the funeral service. It will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church, 263 Robinson Street, Marrero, LA 70072. Pastor M.C. Zeno, Officiating.  Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m., and the service will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will be held at Restlawn Cemetery.
